Report of the Trustees for the Year Ended 31 March 2008

The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 1985, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2008. The trustees have adopted the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities' issued in March 2005.

How Many Clients Did We See and Who Were They?

  • On average, 190 per week – of whom 22% were new clients and 78% ongoing clients – showing the level of casework that we undertake.

  • 40% of our clients come from ethnic communities and 14% are disabled
  • 30% of our clients were under 35 with 36% between 35 and 50, with only 8% over 65

  • 41% of our clients work less than 30 hours per week or are unemployed
  • 21% are employed full time

  • The top 5 nationalities that we see are : British, Sri Lankan, Polish , Irish and Portuguese
  • 16% of our clients are Asian, 8% are black and 12% have mixed race.

  • 66% of our clients have less than £1000 per month income – which shows we are dealing with people living on or below the minimum wage level ( £953 per month)

  • 42% of our clients have children and 37% are single with no dependents

  • 62% are tenants and 30% of these have social landlords
