Report of the Trustee Board

The trustees, who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act, present their report together with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31st March 2007. The Trustees have adopted the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice -Accounting and Reporting by Charities (SORP 2005) issued in March 2005 in preparing the annual report and financial statements of the charity.

KCAB case example:

A couple came to see us who had mental health problems. They were claiming welfare benefits and had children. They had never been able to work but were lent money by a bank to buy essential items and a computer for their home as their previous property had burnt down and they had lost all their possessions. They were also sold Payment Protection Insurance and they came to us for help with canceling the Protection Insurance.

When we checked out the situation, we realized that they should not have been sold the insurance as they had not worked, we also realized that they should not have been given the loan as they were on state benefits and clearly would not be in a position to repay it.

We therefore acted on their behalf and ensured that their debt was written off and we supported them in working out a budget which they could keep to and thus avoid getting into debt in the future.
