Kingston Citizens Advice Bureaux Annual Report 2006 - 2007

Fundraising activities

With reference to securing and increase our income, we secured continuation of:

  • LSC funding for benefit and debt posts.
  • LSC funding for our court desk work.
  • funding from the Students Union at Kingston University for the advice desk.
  • secured a renewal of the three year funding commitment from the Local Authority from April 2007.

We also continued to implement the funding strategy - priority areas for year two are:

  • services for people who work full time.
  • greater access and involvement for young people.
  • developing outreach services.

KCAB case examples:

Couple with 2 young children, in receipt of Job Seeker’s Allowance. Had RBK council tax arrears that had gone to the bailiff . Client had arranged to pay £5 per week following visit by bailiff in Nov 06. She made one payment but then failed to keep up with the payments. Bailiff returned to take her goods to the value of the debt. We contacted council to ask them to call back from bailiff on grounds of vulnerability & accept direct deductions from benefit. When contacted RBK told us the debt had now been paid in full & shouldn't be with bailiffs but they had “overlooked” to inform the bailiff. Debt written off – still awaiting full details of payments etc to consider complaint/compensation .
